Description

Conception through Invitro Fertilization (IVF) is a dream sought by many parents as infertility has plagued some women. This presentation will explore the reasons as to why this dream it is not always fulfilled due to society. Many parents are turned away from IVF based on sexuality, insurance coverage and even by income. The procedure is not available to single women or same sex couples. Most state and private insurance do not offer coverage for IVF, even though infertility is considered a disease. Lastly, only the middle-upperclass can afford this procedure because of the hefty price tag(s) that accompany IVF. These three injustices are supported by scholarly authors and their research. These inequalities for women and couples will be discussed. I want to raise awareness about these inequalities because many people do not realize/know about them. By giving statistics, real-life examples and putting it into perspective for my audience, it will show that society poses ethical problems when it comes to treatment via IVF.
