Description

In my essay, I explore the relationship between unresolved trauma and inherited personal trauma, and how an individual can be impacted by the two. With the aid of psychology, I make a compelling argument to advocate for mental health awareness and explore the sudden rise of conversation about mental illness. With the conversation, I also explore the various methods that young people use to express trauma, such as social media platforms, memes, and even television shows for a variety of ages. From there, I use Netflix's original dark comedy, "Bojack Horseman" as a primary source, and explore all the various ways that lack of resolution manifests itself throughout the show in not only the characters but also the structure of the show. I also take the main character, Bojack Horseman, and delve into his past to demonstrate to the audience how trauma from the past impacts an individual in the present and the future and the importance of addressing personal trauma and the consequences for not doing so.
